gearchangingshouldbeavoided.
Startingonaninclineorinsoftgroundor
sandisalmostimpossible.Alwaysparkona
firmlevelarea,orwiththevehiclefacing
downhill.
OnvehiclesnotfittedwithTractioncontrol,to
avoidwheelspin,selectsecondorthirdgear,
andusetheMINIMUMthrottlenecessaryto
getthevehiclemoving.

Selectthehighestsuitablegearand
REMAINinthatgearuntilafirmsurfaceis
reached.Itisgenerallyadvisabletouse
LOWrangegears,asthesewillenableyou
toacceleratethroughworsening
conditionswithouttheriskofbeingunable
torestart.
Ifforwardmotionislost,avoidexcessiveuse
ofthethrottle-onvehiclesnotfittedwith
Tractioncontrol,thiswillcausewheelspin
andtendtodigthevehicleintothesand.Clear
sandfromaroundthetyresandensurethat
thechassisandaxlesarenotbearingonthe
sandbeforeagainattemptingtomove.

DisengagetheDIFFLOCKassoonasfirm
groundisreached.
Ifthewheelshavesunk,useanairbaglifting
deviceorhighliftjacktoraisethevehicle,and
thenbuildupsandunderthewheelssothat
thevehicleisagainonlevelground.Ifa
restartisstillnotpossible,placesandmatsor
laddersbeneaththewheels.
