Emergency starting
Startinganenginewithadischargedbattery
Alwaysadoptthefollowingprocedurewhen
usingboostercables:.
TheONLYrecommendedmethodsof
restartingavehiclewithadischargedbattery
are:
1.
Ifadonorvehicleistobeused,both
vehiclesshouldbeparkedwiththeir
batterylocationsadjacenttoeachother.
Ensurethatthetwovehiclesdonottouch.

Theuseofasubstitutebatteryfittedtothe
disabledvehicle.
•
Theuseofboostercablestoconnectthe
batteryfromadonorvehicletothe
dischargedbattery.
2. Applythehandbrakesandensurethatthe
transmissionofbothvehiclesissetin
neutral(’P’orParkfordonorvehicleswith
automatictransmission).
USINGBOOSTERCABLES
3. TurnoffthestarterswitchandALL
electricalequipmentofBOTHvehicles.
WARNING
4. ConnecttheREDboostercablebetween
thepositive(+)terminalofthedonor
batteryandthepositive(+)terminalofthe
dischargedbattery.
Batteries emit explosive hydrogen gas -
keep sparks and naked lights away from the
battery compartment.

ConnecttheBLACKboostercablefromthe
negative(-)terminalofthedonorbattery
toagoodearthingpointonthedisabled
vehicle(eg.anenginemountingorother
unpaintedmetalsurface)-atleast0.5m
awayfromthebatteryandwellawayfrom
fuelandbrakelines.Forsafetyreasons,
DONOTconnectthiscabletothe
negativeterminalofthedischarged
battery.
Make sure BOTHbatteries are of the same
voltage (12 volts), and that the booster
cables have insulated clamps and are
approved for use with 12 volt batteries.
DONOTconnect positive (+) terminals to
negative (-) terminals, and ensure booster
cables are kept away from any moving parts
in the engine compartment.
Take care when working near rotating parts
of the engine.

anymovingpartsineitherengine,then
starttheengineofthedonorvehicleand
allowittoidleforafewminutes.
Nowstartthevehiclewiththedischarged
battery.
