Selectingdifflock
Thedifflockcanbeengagedordisengaged
eitherwiththevehiclestationary,orwhen
drivingatanyroadspeed.However,withthe
vehicleinmotionitisESSENTIALtobe
travellingonfirmground,inastraightline,
andwithoutwheelslip.
WARNING
DONOTengage the diff lock if one or more
wheels are slipping - this could damage the
transmission. If wheels are slipping, ease
off the accelerator before engaging the diff
lock.
THEDIFFERENTIALLOCK
DONOTengage the diff lock from the
transfer neutral position.
Unlikemanyfourwheeldrivevehicles,all
LandRovervehicleshavepermanentfour
wheeldrive.Thisisachievedbytheinclusion
ofalockabledifferentialbetweenthefrontand
reardriveshafts.Withthedifferentiallocked,
thedriveshaftstofrontandrearaxlesare(in
effect)joinedtogether,causingbothtorotate
atthesamespeed.Thisisanormalfeature
withallfourwheeldrivevehiclesand
To lock the differential:
Brieflyeasethethrottleandmovethetransfer
gearlevertotheleft-fromeither’H’(high)or
’L’(low)position(thewarninglightonthe
instrumentpanelwillilluminate).

Movethetransfergearlevertotheright-to
either’H’(high)or’L’(low)positionas
required;whenthedifflockdisengagesthe
warninglightwillextinguish.
