Forstaticoperation,selectneutralinthe
transfergearboxtodisconnectthedrivetothe
roadwheels-itisthenpossibletooperatethe
powertake-offindependently.Theforward
gearsandhandthrottle(iffitted)cannowbe
usedtocontroltheoperatingspeed.To
preventthetransmissionfrombeing
YourDefenderiscapableofprovidingastatic
ormobilepowersource,whichcanbeusedto
powergenerators,compressors,pumpsand
otherancillaryequipment,mountedonor
underthevehicle,bymeansofshaft,beltor
hydraulicdrive.Thisispossiblebyhavinga
powertake-offdriveunitfittedtothetransfer
gearbox.Thisprovidesthebasicdrivefor
severalvariationsofpowertake-offlayouts.
overloaded,itisrecommendedthatthe
highestgearpossibleshouldbeused.
Thelowergearscanbeusedwhenlower
operatingspeedsarerequired,butthey
shouldonlybeusedforlightworkloadsand
forshortperiodsoftime.
Thepowertake-offcapabilityisanintegral
partofthevehicledesignandhasbeentried
andtestedunderthemostrigorousand
demandingconditionsacrosstheworld.Land

take-offdriveunitsandaccessories,designed
andbuiltfortheDefender.
Ifpowertake-offisbeingusedwhilethe
vehicleismoving,itwilloperateataspeedin
directproportiontotheroadspeedofthe
vehicleandtotheselectedtransfergearratio.
