The300Tdiengineusesa’serpentine’type
drivebelt,whichdrivesalltheancillaries
exceptfortheairconditioningcompressor
and24Voltalternator(iffitted).
Drivingbelttension
Allpulleysandbeltsshouldbeexamined
regularlyforanydamage,deteriorationor
fouling(grit,mud,oiletc).Replaceorclean
wherenecessary.
Aftereveryoff-roadsession,thedrivebelts
shouldbeinspectedforcutsandpossible
damagecausedbystones.Ifabelthas
jumped,repositionitcorrectlyand,if
necessary,replaceitattheearliest
opportunity.
WARNING
Before checking or adjusting any drive belt;
to prevent the possibility of serious injury,
disconnect the battery negative lead to
prevent the engine from being started.
Anautomaticdrivebelttensionerkeepsthe
beltatthecorrecttension,therebyeliminating
theneedtomanuallycheckthebeltdeflection.
Undernormalhighwayuse,thebeltmustbe
changedat160,000km(96,000mile)oreight
yearintervals(whicheveroccursfirst),but
shouldbeexaminedregularlyforsignsof
wear,splittingoroilcontaminationand
replacedaccordingly.
