“D” Overd rive
WARN ING!
This range shou ld be used for most city and highw ay
driving. It provid es smoothest up shifts and down shifts
and best fuel econom y.
Your veh icle could move and injure you and oth ers if
it is not completely in P (Park ). Check by tryin g to
move the gearsh ift lever back and forth with out
depressin g the shift button after you have set it in P.
Make sure it is in Park before leavin g the veh icle.
When frequ ent transaxle shifting occurs while using the
Overd rive range, such as when operating the vehicle
und er heavy load ing cond itions (in hilly terrain, travel-
ing into strong head wind s, or while tow ing heavy
trailers), use the “3” range.

Drive
Never use the Park position as a substitu te for the
park ing brak e. Alw ays apply the park ing brak e fully
when park ed to guard again st veh icle movem ent and
possib le injury or damage.
This range eliminates shifts into Overd rive. The transaxle
will operate norm ally in first and second while in this
range.
A delayed shift from second to third will occur at speed s
of abou t 31 to 38 mph (50 to 60 km/ h) and low levels of
accelerator pedal travel. An early down-shift from third
to second will occur at a speed of abou t 34 to 30 mph (54
to 48 km/ h). This is done to provid e second gear engine
braking at speed s less than 30 mph (48 km/ h).
“R” Reverse
Shift into this range only after the vehicle has come to a
complete stop .
“N” Neutral
Engine may be started in this range.
