UNDERSTANDING YOUR INSTRUMENT PANEL
When the CAL ind icator goes off, the compass is cali-
brated and shou ld display correct head ings. Verify
prop er calibration by checking North (N), South (S), East
(E), and West (W). If the compass does not appear
accurate, rep eat the calibration proced ure in another area.
Com pass Varian ce
Variance is the difference betw een magnetic North and
geograp hic North. For prop er compass function, the
correct variance zone must be set.
Settin g the Com pass Varian ce
Refer to the variance map for the correct compass vari-
ance zone. To check the variance zone, the ignition must
be on and the compass / tem peratu re displayed . Hold
down both the US / M and STEP buttons simultaneou sly
until the VAR sym bol is lit and then immediately release
both buttons. The current variance zone will now be
displayed . To change the zone, press the STEP button
until the correct zone is displayed . Wait for abou t 5
second s. The trip computer will store this variance in
memory and the compass will resu me norm al operation.
