WHAT TO DO IN EMERGENCIES
JACKING AND TIRE CHANGING
Preparations for Jacking
Park the vehicle on a firm level surface, avoid ice or
slippery areas, and set the parking brake. Place the gear
selector in PARK.

Gettin g under a jack ed-up veh icle is dangerou s.
The veh icle could slip off the jack and fall on you .
You could be crushed. Never get any part of you r
body under a veh icle that is on a jack . Never start
or run the engin e while the veh icle is on a jack . If
you need to get under a raised veh icle, tak e it to a
service center where it can be raised on a lift.

Put gear shift in park (autom atic transm ission) or
reverse (manu al transm ission).
• Set parking brake and turn off engine.

Do not attem pt to change a tire on the sid e of the
veh icle close to movin g traffic. Pull far enough off
the road to avoid the danger of bein g hit when
operatin g the jack or changin g the wheel.

Passengers shou ld not rem ain in the vehicle while the
vehicle is being jacked .
Changin g a Tire
The spare wheel, scissors jack, and lug wrench are
stow ed und er the spare tire cover in the rear cargo area.
The jack is design ed to use as a tool for changin g
tires only. The jack should not be used to lift the
veh icle for service purposes. The veh icle should
be jack ed on a firm level surface only. Avoid ice or
slip pery areas.
Do not attem pt to raise this vehicle using a bumper jack.
