Coolin g System — Drain , Flush and Refill
CAUTIO N!
At the intervals show n on the Maintenance Sched ules,
the system shou ld be drained , flushed and refilled . The
first change shou ld not be requ ired until 5 years or
Failu re to use the prop er antifreeze could cause
rad iator pluggin g and engin e overh eatin g. Do not
mix antifreeze bran ds or use plain water alon e or
alcoh ol base antifreeze prod ucts. Do not use addi-
tion al rust inhibitors or antiru st prod ucts, as they
may not be compatib le with the rad iator coolan t and
may plug the rad iator or heater core.

miles (160,000 km), whichever comes first. The
coolant shou ld be flushed and changed every two years
or 36,000 miles (57,600 km) thereafter.
If the solu tion is dirty and contains a consid erable
amount of sed iment, clean and flush with a reliable
cooling system cleaner. Follow with a thorou gh rinsing to
rem ove all deposits and chem icals. Used autom otive
antifreeze is a recyclable commodity. Discard or recycle
as facilities exist in you r area.
Adding Coolan t
When adding coolant, a solu tion of 50% ethylene glycol
antifreeze coolant in distilled water shou ld be used . Use
higher concentrations (not to exceed 60%) if tem peratu res
below -32°F (-35°C) are anticip ated .
Selection Of Coolan t
Use only the manu factu rer’s recom mend ed coolant, refer
to Recom mend ed Fluids, Lubricants and Genu ine Parts
for correct coolant typ e.
Please note that it is the owner’s resp onsibility to main-
tain the prop er level of protection against freezing ac-
cord ing to the tem peratu res occurring in the area where
the vehicle is operated .
