Checking Oil Level
You can be badly injured work ing on or arou nd a
motor veh icle. Do only that service work for which
you have the knowled ge and the prop er equipment.
If you have any doubt about you r ability to perform
a service job , tak e you r veh icle to a competen t
mechanic.
To assu re prop er lubrication of you r vehicle’s engine, the
engine oil must be maintained , at the correct level. Check
the oil level at regu lar intervals, such as every fuel stop .
The best time to check the oil level is abou t 5 minu tes
after a fully warm ed engine is shu t off or before starting
the engine after it has sat overnight.
Checking the oil while the vehicle is on level grou nd will
improve the accuracy of the oil level read ings. Maintain
the oil level betw een the MIN and MAX markings on the
dipstick. Adding one quart of oil when the read ing is at
the MIN mark will resu lt in a MAX read ing on these
engines.

Besides the maintenance item s for which there are fixed
maintenance intervals, there are other item s that shou ld
operate satisfactorily withou t period ic maintenance.
However, if a malfunction of these item s does occur, it
could adversely affect the engine or vehicle perform ance.
These item s shou ld be insp ected if a malfunction is
observed or suspected .
