engine start. The vehicle shou ld be serviced if the light
stays on throu gh several of you r typ ical driving cycles. In
most situ ations the vehicle will drive norm ally and will
not requ ire tow ing.
• There is a Traction Control System malfunction
The system has been deactivated to prevent damage
to the brake system due to overheated brake tem -
peratu res.
•
The Malfu nction Ind icator Light flashes to alert to seriou s
cond itions that could lead to immediate loss of power or
severe catalytic converter damage. The vehicle shou ld be
serviced as soon as possible if this occurs.
NOTE: Extend ed heavy use of Traction Control may
cause the system to deactivate and turn on the TRAC and
the OFF ind icators located in the instru ment cluster.
This is to prevent overheating of the brake system and is
a norm al cond ition. The system will rem ain disabled for
abou t 4 minu tes until the brakes have cooled . The system
will autom atically reactivate and turn off the TRAC and
the OFF ind icators.

Trac Off Indica tor — If Equipped
This vacu um fluorescent display ind icator shou ld illumi-
nate for approxim ately four second s as a bulb check
when the ignition switch is first turned ON.
The “TRAC OFF” Ind icator will flash if the traction
control is in use.
If you r vehicle becom es stu ck in mud, ice, or snow, turn
the Traction Control System OFF before attem pting to
“rock” the vehicle free.
The “TRAC OFF” Ind icator will illuminate if:

The Traction Control switch has been used to turn
the system OFF.
