CAUTIO N!
Do not overfill. Dirt and water in the tran smission
can cause seriou s damage. To preven t dirt and water
from enterin g the tran smission after checking or
rep len ish ing flu id, make certain that the dipstick cap
is reseated prop erly.
If the transm ission is disassem bled for any reason, the
fluid and filter shou ld be changed .
Special Additives
Do not add any fluid additives to the transm ission. The
only excep tion to this policy is the use of special dyes to
aid in detecting fluid leaks. The use of transm ission
sealers shou ld be avoid ed as they may adversely affect
seals.
Fluid and Filter Changes
Autom atic transm ission fluid shou ld be changed on all
transm issions as follow s:
All Wheel Drive (AWD)
Norm al Usage — No change necessary
Severe Usage (fluid and filter) — 60,000 miles (96 000 km)
Severe Usage is defined as:
Und er norm al operating cond itions, period ic fluid level 7
checks and lubricant changes for the Pow er Transfer
Unit, Overru nning Clutch and Rear Carrier, are not
requ ired . However when the vehicle is serviced for other
reasons, the exterior surface of these components shou ld
be insp ected for evid ence of fluid leaks. Confirm ed leaks
shou ld be rep aired as soon as possible.
•
Police, taxi, limousine, commercial typ e operation, or
trailer tow ing where the vehicle is driven regu larly for
more than 45 minu tes of continu ous operation.
