If An Airb ag Deploym ent Occurs
haven’t healed significantly within a few days, or if
you have any blistering, see you r doctor immediately.
The airbag system s are designed to deploy when the
airbag control modules detect a moderate-to-severe col-
lision, to help restrain the driver and front passenger, and
then immediately deflate.

As the airbags deflate you may see som e smoke-like 2
particles. The particles are a norm al by-p rod uct of the
process that generates the nontoxic gas used for airbag
inflation. These airborne particles may irritate the skin,
eyes, nose, or throat. If you have skin or eye irritation,
rinse the area with cool water. For nose or throat
irritation, move to fresh air. If the irritation continu es,
see you r doctor. If these particles settle on you r
clothing, follow the garm ent manu factu rer’s instru c-
tions for cleaning.
NOTE: A collision that is not severe enou gh to need
airbag protection will not activate the system . This does
not mean som ething is wrong with the airbag system .
If you do have a collision which deploys the airbag, any
or all of the follow ing may occur:

The airbag material may som etim es cause abrasions
and / or skin red dening to the driver and front passen-
ger as the airbags deploy and unfold . The abrasions
are similar to friction rop e burns or those you might
get sliding along a carp et or gym nasiu m floor. They
are not caused by contact with chem icals. They are not
perm anent and norm ally heal quickly. However, if you
It is not advisable to drive you r vehicle after the
airbags have deployed . If you are involved in another
collision, the airbags and seat belt pretensioners will
not be in place to protect you .
