Coolan t Pressu re Cap
Disp osal of Used Engin e Coolan t
The coolant pressu re cap must be fully tightened to
prevent loss of coolant, and to insu re that coolant will
retu rn to the rad iator from the coolant recovery bottle.
The coolant pressu re cap shou ld be insp ected and
cleaned if there is any accumulation of foreign material
on the sealing surfaces.
Used ethylene glycol based engine coolant is a regu lated
substance requ iring prop er disposal. Check with you r
local authorities to determ ine the disposal rules for you r
community. To prevent ingestion by anim als or child ren
do not store ethylene glycol based engine coolant in open
containers or allow it to rem ain in puddles on the
grou nd . If ingested by a child , contact a physician
immediately. Clean up any grou nd spills immediately.
WARN ING!
Coolan t Level
The warning words “DO NOT OPEN HOT” on the
coolant pressu re cap are a safety precaution . Never add
coolant to the radiator when the engine is overh eated .
Do not loosen or remove the coolant pressu re cap to
cool an overh eated engine. Heat causes pressu re to
build up in the coolin g system . To preven t scalding or
injury, do not remove the coolant pressu re cap while the
system is hot or under pressu re.
The coolant recovery bottle provid es a quick visu al
method for determ ining that the coolant level is ad-
equ ate. With the engine cold, the level of the coolant in
the coolant recovery bottle shou ld be betw een the
“MAX” and “MIN ” marks. The rad iator norm ally re-
mains completely full, so there is no need to rem ove the
rad iator cap excep t for checking coolant freeze point or
rep lacem ent with new antifreeze coolant. Your service
attend ant shou ld be advised of this. So long as the engine
