Apply parking brake when leaving vehicle in this range.
“R” Reverse
Shift into this range only after the vehicle has come to a
complete stop .

If the transm ission cannot be reset, dealer service is
requ ired .
Gear Ran ges
DO NOT race the engine when shifting from PARK or
NEUTRAL positions into another gear range.
• “N” Neut ral
Engine may be started in this range.

“D” Overdrive
For most city and highw ay driving, it provid es smoothest 5
upshifts and downshifts and best fuel econom y. When
frequ ent transm ission shifting occurs while using the
“D” Overd rive position, such as when operating the
vehicle und er heavy load ing cond itions, (i.e. in hilly
terrain, traveling into strong head wind s or while tow ing
heavy trailers), using the “3” position will improve
perform ance and extend transm ission life by red ucing
excessive shifting and heat build-up.
•
“P” Park
Supplements the parking brake by locking the transm is-
sion. The engine can be started in this range. Never
attem pt to use PARK while vehicle is in motion.
