withqualityfuel.Poorfuelquality
causestheenginenottorunas
efficiently asdesigned andmay
cause:stalling afterstart-up,
stalling whenthevehicleis
changedintogear,misfiring,
hesitation onacceleration,
orstumbling onacceleration.
Theseconditions mightgoaway
oncetheengineiswarmedup.
EmissionsInspectionand
MaintenancePrograms
LightOnSteady:  Anemission
controlsystemmalfunction  has
beendetected onthevehicle.
Diagnosis andservicemightbe
required.
Somestate/provincial andlocal
governments haveormightbegin
programs toinspecttheemission
controlequipment onthevehicle.
Failuretopassthisinspection
couldpreventgettingavehicle
registration.
Anemission systemmalfunction
mightbecorrected.

Makesurethefuelcapisfully
installed. SeeFillingtheTankon
page 8‑48.Thediagnostic
systemcandetermine  ifthe
fuelcaphasbeenleftoffor
improperly installed. Alooseor
missingfuelcapallowsfuelto
evaporate intotheatmosphere.
Afewdrivingtripswiththecap
properly installed shouldturnthe
lightoff.
Herearesomethingstoknowto
helpthevehiclepassaninspection:
Ifoneormoreofthese
conditions occurs,changethe
fuelbrandused.Itwillrequireat
leastonefulltankoftheproper
fueltoturnthelightoff.

Thevehiclewillnotpassthis
inspection ifthecheckengine
lightisonwiththeengine
running, oriftheignition  is
placedinON/RUNandthelight
isnoton.

page 8‑45.

Ifthevehiclehasbeendriven
throughadeeppuddleofwater,
thevehicle's electrical system
mightbewet.Thecondition   is
usuallycorrected whenthe
electrical systemdriesout.
Afewdrivingtripsshouldturn
thelightoff.
Ifnoneoftheabovehavemade
thelightturnoff,yourdealer/retailer
cancheckthevehicle.  The
dealer/retailer hasthepropertest
equipment anddiagnostic toolsto
fixanymechanical  orelectrical
problems thatmighthave
developed.
