stopping distance. Ifyougettoo
closetothevehicleinfrontofyou,
therewillnotbeenoughtimeto
applythebrakesifthatvehicle
suddenlyslowsorstops.Always
leaveenoughroomupaheadto
stop,evenwithABS.
ParkingBrake
ThesystemhasaParkBrake
StatuslightandaParkBrake
Warninglight.SeeBrakeSystem
WarningLight on page 4‑23 .There
arealsothreeDriverInformation
Center(DIC)messages.  SeeDriver
Information Center(DIC) on
page 4‑29 formoreinformation. In
caseofinsufficient  electrical power,
theEPBcannotbeappliedor
released.
UsingABS
Beforeleavingthevehicle,  check
theparkbrakestatuslamptoinsure
theparkbrakeisapplied.
Donotpumpthebrakes.Justhold
thebrakepedaldownfirmlyandlet
ABSwork.TheABSpumpormotor
mightbeheardoperating,  andthe
brakepedalmightbefelttopulsate,
butthisisnormal.
ThevehiclehasanElectric   Parking
Brake(EPB).Theswitchforthe
EPBisinthecenterconsole.The
EPBcanalwaysbeactivated,   even
iftheignition  isOFF.Toavoid
draining thebattery,donotcycle
theEPBtoooftenwithoutthe
enginerunning. TheEPBcanbeleft
appliedwhilethevehicleisparked.
BrakinginEmergencies
ABSallowsthedrivertosteerand
brakeatthesametime.Inmany
emergencies, steering canhelp
morethaneventheverybest
braking.
