LeavingtheVehicleWith
theEngineRunning
Seeifyoucanmovetheshiftlever
awayfromP(Park)withoutfirst
pullingittowardyou.Ifyoucan,it
meansthattheshiftleverwasnot
fullylockedintoP(Park).
Thisvehicleisequipped  withan
electronic shiftlockreleasesystem.
Theshiftlockreleaseisdesignedto
preventmovementoftheshiftlever
outofP(Park),unlesstheignition    is
inON/RUNorACC/ACCESSORY
andthebrakepedalisapplied
{WARNING
Itcanbedangerous  toleavethe
vehiclewiththeenginerunning.
Thevehiclecouldmovesuddenly
iftheshiftleverisnotfullyin
P(Park)withtheparkingbrake
firmlyset.And,ifyouleavethe
vehiclewiththeenginerunning,   it
couldoverheatandevencatch
fire.Youorotherscouldbe
TorqueLock
Torquelockiswhentheweight
ofthevehicleputstoomuch
forceontheparkingpawlinthe
transmission. Thishappenswhen
parkingonahillandshifting   the
transmission intoP(Park)isnot
doneproperly andthenitisdifficult
toshiftoutofP(Park).Toprevent
torquelock,settheparkingbrake
andthenshiftintoP(Park).Tofind
outhow,see"Shifting  IntoP(Park)"
listedpreviously.
Theshiftlockreleaseisalways
functional exceptinthecaseofan
uncharged orlowvoltage(lessthan
9volt)battery.
Ifthevehiclehasanuncharged
batteryorabattery  withlowvoltage,
trycharging orjumpstarting  the
battery.SeeJumpStartingon
page9‑101.
injured. Donotleavethevehicle
withtheenginerunning.
Ifyouhavetoleavethevehicle
withtheenginerunning,  besure
thevehicleisinP(Park)andthe
parkingbrakeisfirmlysetbefore
youleaveit.Afteryouhavemoved
theshiftleverintoP(Park),hold
downtheregularbrakepedal.
ToshiftoutofP(Park):
Iftorquelockdoesoccur,your
vehiclemayneedtobepushed
uphillbyanothervehicletorelieve
theparkingpawlpressure,  soyou
canshiftoutofP(Park).
1. Applythebrakepedal.
2. Presstheshiftleverbutton.
3.
Movetheshiftlevertothe
desiredposition.
