Ifsomething isbetweenan
occupantandanairbag,the
airbagmightnotinflateproperly
oritmightforcetheobjectinto
thatpersoncausingsevereinjury
orevendeath.Thepathofan
inflating airbagmustbekept
clear.Donotputanything
betweenanoccupant andan
airbag,anddonotattachorput
anything onthesteeringwheel
huboronornearanyother
airbagcovering.
Frontalairbagsaredesignedto
inflateinmoderatetoseverefrontal
ornear-frontal crashestohelp
reducethepotential forsevere
injuries mainlytothedriver's orright
frontpassenger's headandchest.
However,theyareonlydesigned
toinflateiftheimpactexceeds
apredetermined deployment
threshold. Deployment thresholds
areusedtopredicthowseverea
crashislikelytobeintimeforthe
airbagstoinflateandhelprestrain
theoccupants.
DriverSideshown,Passenger
Sidesimilar
Theroof-rail airbagsforthedriver,
rightfrontpassenger,andsecond
rowoutboard passengers areinthe
ceilingabovethesidewindows.
Donotuseseataccessories
thatblocktheinflation pathofa
seat-mounted sideimpactairbag.
Whetherthefrontalairbagswill
orshoulddeployisnotbasedon
howfastyourvehicleistraveling.
Itdependslargelyonwhatyouhit,
thedirection oftheimpact,andhow
quicklyyourvehicleslowsdown.
Neversecureanything totheroof
ofavehiclewithroof-rail airbags
byroutingaropeortiedown
throughanydoororwindow
opening. Ifyoudo,thepathofan
inflating roof-rail airbagwillbe
blocked.
