STARTING AND OPERATING
STARTING PROCEDURES
Normal Starting
Normal Starting of  either  a  cold  or  a  warm  engine   is
obtained  withou  t pumping   or depressing   the  accelerator
pedal.  Turn  the  key to the  STARTposition   and  release
when   the  engine   starts.   If the   engine   has  not  started
within  3  second s, slightly   depress  the  accelerator   pedal
while   continu ing  to  crank.   If  the  engine   fails  to  start
within  15  second s, turn   the  key  to the  OFF”  position,
wait  10  to 15  second s,  then  rep eat  the  norm al starting
proced ure.
CAUTION!
Long periods of engine idling, especially at high
enginespeeds,cancauseexcessiveexhausttempera-
tureswhichcandamageyourvehicle.Donotleave
yourvehicleunattendedwiththeenginerunning.
WARNING!
Extremely Cold Weather (below Ϫ20°F  or Ϫ29°C)  To
insu re reliable   starting  at  these  tem peratu res,  use  of an
externally  powered  electric  engine  block heater  (available
from  you r dealer)  is recom mend ed.
Do not leave animals or children inside parked
vehiclesinhotweather;interiorheatbuildupmay
causeseriousinjuryordeath.
The  gear  selector   must  be  in  the  NEUTRAL   or  PARK
position  before you  can start  the engine.  Apply the  brakes
before  shifting  into  any  driving  gear.
