engine compartm ent for jump starting.

it started. Vehicles equipped with an automatic
transmission cannot be started this way. Un-
burnedfuelcouldenterthecatalyticconverterand
oncetheenginehasstarted,igniteanddamagethe
converter and vehicle. If the vehicle has a dis-
charged battery, booster cables may be used to
obtain a start from another vehicle. This type of
start can be dangerous if done improperly, so
followthisprocedurecarefully.
Battery fluid is a corrosive acid solution; do not
allowbatteryfluidtocontacteyes,skinorclothing.
Don’t lean over battery when attaching clamps or
allow the clamps to touch each other. If acid
splashesineyesoronskin,flushcontaminatedarea
immediatelywithlargequantitiesofwater.
NOTE: The battery in this vehicle has a vent hose that
shou ld not be disconnected and shou ld only be rep laced
with a battery of the sam e typ e (vented ).
1. Wear eye protection and rem ove any metal jewelry
such as watch band s or bracelets that might make an
inad vertent electrical contact.

withou t letting the vehicles tou ch. Set the parking brake,
place the autom atic transm ission in PARK and turn the
ignition switch to the OFF (or LOCK) position for both
vehicles.
