MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE
NOTE:
Often, fluid such as oil, power steering fluid,

and brake fluid are used during assem bly plant opera-
tions to facilitate the assem bly of hoses to couplings.
Therefore, oil wetness at the hose-cou pling area is not
necessarily an ind ication of leakage. Actu al dripping of
hot fluid when system s are und er pressu re (during
vehicle operation), shou ld be noted before a hose is
rep laced based on leakage.

Brake Fluid Level Check
NOTE: Insp ection of brake hoses shou ld be perform ed
whenever the brake system is serviced and at every
engine oil change. Insp ect hyd rau lic brake hoses for
surface cracking, scuffing, or worn spots. If there is any
evid ence of cracking, scuffing, or worn spots, the hose
shou ld be rep laced immediately! Eventu al deterioration
of the hose can take place resu lting in a possibility of a
burst failu re.
The fluid level in the master cylind er shou ld be checked
when perform ing und erhood services, or immediately if
the brake system warning light ind icates system failu re.
Clean the top of the master cylind er area before rem oving
the cap. Add fluid to bring the level up to the top of the
“
FULL” mark on the side of the master cylind er reservoir.
Overfilling of fluid is not recom mend ed becau se it may
cause leaking in the system .
Add enou gh fluid to bring the level up to the requ ire-
ments described on the brake fluid reservoir. With disc
brakes, fluid level can be expected to fall as the brake
pads wear. However, low fluid level may be caused by a
leak and a checku p may be need ed.
