An electronically actu ated trailer brake controller is
requ ired when tow ing a trailer with electronically
actu ated brakes. When tow ing a trailer equ ipped with
a hyd rau lic surge actu ated brake system , an electronic
brake controller is not requ ired .
WARNING!
Do not connect trailer brakes to your vehicle’ s hy-
draulic brake lines. It can overload your brake sys-
temandcauseittofail.Youmightnothavebrakes
whenyouneedthemandcouldhaveanaccident.
Trailer brakes are recom mend ed for trailers over 1,000
lbs (454 kg) and requ ired for trailers in excess of 2,000
lbs (907 kg).
Towing any trailer will increase your stopping dis-
tance.Whentowingyoushouldallowforadditional
spacebetweenyourvehicleandthevehicleinfront 5
ofyou.Failuretodosocouldresultinanaccident.

TowingRequirements—TrailerLights&Wiring
Whenever you pull a trailer, regard less of the trailer size,
stop lights and turn signals on the trailer are requ ired for
motoring safety.
If the trailer weighs more than 1,000 lbs (454 kg)
loaded, it should have its own brakes and they
should be of adequate capacity. Failure to do this
could lead to accelerated brake lining wear, higher
brakepedaleffort,andlongerstoppingdistances.
The Trailer Tow Package may inclu de a 4 and 7 pin
wiring harness. Use a factory approved trailer harness
and connector.
NOTE:
Do not cut or splice wiring into the vehicles
wiring harness.
