MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE
PointsToRemember
• Maintaincoolant (mcoolantinim umconcentration) and distilledat 50%waterHOATfor penginerop er
corrosion protection of you r engine which contains
aluminu m components.
NOTE: When the vehicle is stop ped after a few miles
(kilom eters) of operation, you may observe vap or coming
from the front of the engine compartm ent. This is nor-
mally a resu lt of moistu re from rain, snow, or high
hu midity accumulating on the rad iator and being vap or-
ized when the therm ostat opens, allow ing hot coolant to
enter the rad iator.
• bottleMake overflowsure thathosesthe radare iatornot kinkedand coolantor obstrurecoverycted .
•
Keep the front of the rad iator clean. If you r vehicle is
equ ipped with air cond itioning, keep the front of the
cond enser clean, also.
If an exam ination of you r engine compartm ent show s no
evid ence of rad iator or hose leaks, the vehicle may be
safely driven. The vap or will soon dissip ate.
•
Do not change the therm ostat for summer or winter
operation. If rep lacem ent is ever necessary, install
ONLY the correct typ e therm ostat. Other designs may
resu lt in unsatisfactory coolant perform ance, poor gas
mileage, and increased emissions.
•
•
Do not overfill the coolant recovery bottle.
Check coolant freeze point in the rad iator and in the
coolant recovery bottle. If antifreeze need s to be
added, contents of coolant recovery bottle must also be
protected against freezing.
Hoses And Vacuum/Vapor Harnesses
Insp ect surfaces of hoses and nylon tubing for evid ence
of heat and mechanical damage. Hard or soft spots,
brittle rubber, cracking, tears, cuts, abrasions, and exces-
sive swelling ind icate deterioration of the rubber.
•
If frequ ent coolant additions are requ ired , or if the
level in the coolant recovery bottle does not drop when
the engine cools, the cooling system shou ld be pres-
sure tested for leaks.
