Coola nt Temperature Gauge
18. Malfunct ion Indica tor Light
Ind icates engine coolant tem peratu re. The red
zone to the far right ind icates possible overheat-
ing. Seek authorized service immediately if the
gau ge operates in the red zone. In U.S. vehicles,
tem peratu re is ind icated in degrees fahrenheit; in
Canad ian vehicles in degrees centigrad e.
This light is a part of an Onboard Diagnostic
System called OBD II that monitors engine,
and autom atic transm ission control system s.
The light will illuminate when the ignition is in the
ON position before engine start. If the bulb does not
come on when turning the key from OFF to ON, have
the cond ition checked prom ptly.

Airba g Warning Light
This ind icator lights and rem ains lit for 6 to
second s when the ignition is first turned
Certain cond itions such as a loose or missing gas cap,
poor quality fuel, etc. may illuminate the light after
engine start. The vehicle shou ld be serviced if the light
stays on throu gh several typ ical driving styles. In most
situ ations, the vehicle will drive norm ally and will not
requ ire tow ing.

Check Gauges Warning Light
When the engine is running, the “Malfu nction Ind icator
Light” may flash to alert seriou s cond itions that could
lead to immediate loss of power or severe catalytic
converter damage. The vehicle shou ld be serviced as
soon as possible if this occurs.
This light monitors the engine coolant tem -
peratu re, engine oil pressu re, and voltage
gau ges. If it detects an extrem e cond ition a
chim e will sou nd and the light will come on. If the
light comes on, check the operation of these gau ges for
a malfunction cond ition.
