Alw ays fully apply the park ing brak e when leav-
ing you r veh icle, or veh icle may roll and cause
damage or injury. Also be certain to leave a
autom atic tran smission in P (Park ), or a manual
tran smission in 1st gear. Make certain the tran sfer
case is in gear. Failu re to do so may cause the
veh icle to roll and cause damage or injury.

to tou ch the park ing brak e or the gear selector
lever. Don’t leave the keys in the ign ition . A child
could operate controls or move the veh icle.

If the park ing brak e is released , and the BRAKE
warn ing ligh t glow s while the ign ition switch is
ON or the engin e is running, there may be a brak e
system prob lem . Brak e pedal travel, effort and
stop ping distan ces may increase, and you should
obtain corrective service immediately.
To release the parking brake, pull up slightly, press center
button, then lower lever completely.
When parking on a hill, it is important to set the parking
brake before placing the gear selector in P (Park), other-
wise the load on the transm ission locking mechanism
may make it difficult to move the selector out of P (Park).
The parking brake shou ld alw ays be applied when the
driver is not in the vehicle.
