CAUTIO N!
To preven t damage to the starter, do not cran k the
engin e for more than 15 secon ds at a tim e. Wait 10 to
15
secon ds before tryin g again .
If the engine has been flood ed, it may start to run, but not
have enou gh power to continu e running when the key is
released . If this occurs, continu e cranking with the accel- 5
erator pedal pushed all the way to the floor. Release the
accelerator pedal and the key once the engine is running
smoothly.
Extreme Cold Weather (below –20°F or –29°C)
To insu re reliable starting at these tem peratu res, use of an
externally powered electric engine block heater (available
from you r dealer) is recom mend ed.
If the engine show s no sign of starting after two 15
second period s of cranking with the accelerator pedal
held to the floor, the “Norm al Starting” or “Extrem e Cold
Weather” proced ures shou ld be rep eated .
If Engine Fails to Start
If the engine fails to start after you have follow ed the
“Norm al Starting” or “Extrem e Cold Weather” proce-
dures, it may be flood ed. Push the accelerator pedal all
the way to the floor and hold it there while cranking the
engine. This shou ld clear any excess fuel in case the
engine is flood ed.
