Do not try to start the engine by pushing or tow ing the
vehicle.
WARN ING!
A hot exhaust system can start a fire if you park over
materials that can burn. Such materials migh t be
grass or leaves coming into contact with you r ex-
haust system . Do not park or operate you r veh icle in
areas where you r exhaust system can contact any-
thing that can burn.
Do not idle the engine with any spark plug wires
disconnected or rem oved , such as when diagnostic
testing.

In unu sual situ ations involving grossly malfunctioning
engine operation, a scorching odor may suggest severe
and abnorm al catalyst overheating. If this occurs, stop
the vehicle, turn off the engine and allow it to cool.
Service, inclu ding a tune up to manu factu rer’s specifica-
tions, shou ld be obtained immediately.
• Do not allow vehicle to run out of fuel.
NOTE: Intentional tam pering with emissions control
system s can resu lt in civil penalties being assessed
against you .

Engine Timing Belt — 2.4L Engine
To minim ize the possibility of catalytic converter dam-
age:
Replace the engine timing belt at the intervals described
in the approp riate maintenance sched ule.

Do not shu t off the engine or interru pt the ignition
when the transm ission is in gear and the vehicle is in
motion.
Ignition Wiring System — 2.4L Engine
Replace the ignition cables at the intervals described in
the approp riate maintenance sched ule.
