Do not downshift into a low gear while traveling at too
high a speed for that gear. Engine, clutch, or transm is-
sion damage may resu lt.

5th gear to Reverse. If you experience difficulty shift-
ing into “Reverse”, make sure that you are not inad -
vertently moving the shift lever tow ard 5th gear when
shifting into “Reverse.”

Do not rest you r foot on the clutch pedal. This causes
heat buildup and damages the clutch.
When you slow down or go up a grad e, downshift as
speed requ ires or the engine may overheat.

Never hold the vehicle stop ped on a hill by using the
clutch pedal. The clutch may be damaged .
The “Shift Ind icator Light” in the instru ment cluster
rem ind s you when to shift to the next higher gear (4.0L
Only). The manu factu rer recom mend s that you use the
SIL for norm al driving. The desired shift speed s are listed
in the chart below.
During cold weather, you may experience increased
effort in shifting until the transm ission fluid warm s
up. This is norm al.
