STARTING AND OPERATING
STARTING PROCEDURES
Before starting you r vehicle, adjust you r seat, adjust both
insid e and outsid e mirrors, and fasten you r seat belts.
WARN ING!
You or oth ers arou nd you could be injured if you
attem pt to start the engin e with a manual tran smis-
sion in gear — you r veh icle will move. Rem ember,
alw ays push the clutch pedal in fully and shift into
N (Neutral) before attem ptin g to start the engin e.
WARN ING!
Do not leave child ren or animals insid e park ed
veh icles in hot weath er. Interior heat build up may
cause seriou s injury or death .
Automatic Transmission
Start the engine with the selector lever in the N (Neutral)
or P (Park) position. Apply the brake before shifting to
any driving range.
Manual Transmission
Apply the parking brake, place the gearshift control lever
in N (Neutral) and depress the clutch pedal before
starting vehicle. This vehicle is equ ipped with a clutch
interlocking ignition system . It will not start unless the
clutch pedal is pressed to the floor.
Normal Starting
Norm al starting of either a cold or a warm engine is
obtained withou t pumping or depressing the accelerator
pedal. Turn the key to the START position and release
when the engine starts. If the engine fails to start within
10
second s, turn the key to the OFF position, wait 5
second s, then rep eat the norm al starting proced ure.
