linings, and axle yokes insp ected and cleaned as soon
as possible.
Shift the transm ission into a low gear and transfer case to
4L (Low) range. Let the vehicle go slow ly down the hill
with all four wheels turning against engine compression
drag. This will perm it you to control the vehicle speed
and direction.
WARN ING!
After Driving Off-Road
Abrasive material in any part of the brak es may
cause excessive wear or unpred ictab le brak ing. You
migh t not have full brak ing power when you need it
to preven t an accid ent. If you have been operatin g
you r veh icle in dirty condition s, get you r brak es
checked and clean ed as necessary.
Off-road operation puts more stress on you r vehicle than
does most on-road driving. After driving off-road , it is
alw ays a good idea to check for damage.

Com pletely insp ect the und erbod y of you r vehicle.
Check tires, bod y stru cture, steering, suspension, and
exhau st system for damage.

Check thread ed fasteners for looseness, particu larly on
the chassis, drivetrain components, steering, and sus-
pension. Retighten them , if requ ired , and torqu e to the
valu es specified in the Service Manu al.
• mIf uyoud, sluexpsherienceor similarunucondsualitions,vibrationcheckafterthe wdrivingheels forin
packed material. Packed foreign material can cause a
wheel imbalance and freeing the wheels will correct
the situ ation.

Check for accumulations of plants or bru sh. These
things could be a fire hazard , or they might hid e
damage to fuel lines, brake hoses, axle pinion seals,
and prop eller shafts.
