After the engine is started or if the engine fails to start,

Do not connect the cable to the negative term inal
of the disch arged battery. The resu ltin g electrical
spark could cause the battery to explod e.
a. Disconnect the negative cable at the engine
grou nd .
b. Disconnect the negative cable at the negative
term inal on the booster battery.
Durin g cold weath er when tem peratu res are be-
low freezin g poin t, electrolyte in a disch arged
battery may freeze. Do not attem pt jump startin g
becau se the battery could rupture or explod e. The
battery tem peratu re must be brou ght up above
freezin g poin t before attem ptin g to jump start.
c. Disconnect the cable from the positive term inals
of both batteries.

Take care that the clamps from one cable do not tou ch
clamps from the other cable. Do not lean over the battery
when making the connection. The negative connection
must provid e good electrical cond uctivity and current
carrying capacity.
