MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE
Insp ect the drive belt for evid ence of cuts, cracks, or
glazing and rep lace them if there is any sign of damage
which could resu lt in belt failu re. If adjustm ent is re-
quired , adjust the belts accord ing to the specifications
and proced ures show n in the Service Manu al.
Catalytic Converter
The catalytic converter requ ires the use of unlead ed fuel
only. Lead ed gasoline will destroy the effectiveness of the
converter as an emission control device.
Und er norm al operating cond itions, the catalytic con-
verter will not requ ire maintenance. However, it is im-
portant to keep the engine prop erly tuned to assu re
prop er catalyst operation and prevent possible catalyst
damage.
Special tools are requ ired to prop erly measu re tension
and to restore belt tension to factory specifications. Also,
check belt rou ting to make sure there is no interference
betw een the belts and other engine components.
Spark Plugs
Spark plugs must fire prop erly to assu re engine perfor-
mance and emission control. New plugs shou ld be in-
stalled at the mileage specified in the approp riate main-
tenance chart. The entire set shou ld be rep laced if there is
any malfunction due to a faulty spark plug.
