When engaged in P (Park), you will not be able to
move the shifter rearw ard withou t depressing the shift
lever button.
WARN ING!
Uninten ded movem ent of a veh icle could injure
those in and near the veh icle. As with all veh icles,
you should never exit a veh icle while the engin e is
running. Before exitin g a veh icle, you should alw ays
shift the veh icle into P (Park ), rem ove the key from
the ign ition , and apply the park ing brak e. Once the
key is rem oved from the ign ition , the tran smission
shift lever is lock ed in the P (Park ) position , secu rin g
the veh icle again st unwanted movem ent. Furth er-
more, you should never leave child ren unatten ded
insid e a veh icle.
CAUTIO N!
Before movin g the shift lever out of P (Park ), you
must turn the ign ition from LOCK to ON so the
steerin g wheel and shift lever are released . Other- 5
wise, damage to the steerin g colu mn or shifter could
resu lt.
R (Reverse)
For moving the vehicle rearw ard . Alw ays stop before
moving the lever to R (Reverse), excep t when rocking
the vehicle.
The follow ing ind icators shou ld be used to ensu re that
you have engaged the transm ission shift lever into the P
(Park) position:
N (Neut ral)
Engine may be started in this position.

When shifting into P (Park), depress the button on the
shift lever and firm ly move the lever all the way
forw ard until it stop s.
•
Look at the shift ind icator wind ow on the console to
ensu re it is in the P (Park) position.
