ENGINE BREAK-IN RECOMMENDATIONS
A long break-in period is not requ ired for the engine in
you r vehicle.
A new engine may consu me som e oil during its first few
thou sand miles (kilom eters) of operation. This shou ld be
consid ered as a norm al part of the break-in and not
interp reted as an ind ication of difficulty.
2
Drive moderately during the first 300 mi (500 km). After
the initial 60 mi (100 km), speed s up to 50 or 55 mph (80
or 90 km/ h) are desirable.
SAFETY TIPS
Exhaust Gas
While cruising, brief full-throttle acceleration, within the
limits of local traffic law s, contribu tes to a good break-in.
Wide-op en throttle acceleration in low gear can be detri-
mental and shou ld be avoid ed.
WARN ING!
Exhaust gases can injure or kill. They contain carb on
monoxid e (CO) which is colorless and odorless.
Breath ing it can make you unconsciou s and can
even tually poison you . To avoid breath ing (CO)
follow the safety tip s below.
The engine oil installed in the engine at the factory is a
high-qu ality
energy-conserving
typ e lubricant. Oil
changes shou ld be consistent with anticip ated climate
cond itions und er which vehicle operations will occur. For
the recom mend ed viscosity and quality grad es, refer to
“Maintenance Proced ures” in Section 7 of this manu al.
NON-DETERGEN T OR STRAIGHT MINERAL OILS
MUST NEVER BE USED.
Do not run the engine in a closed garage or in confined
areas any longer than need ed to move you r vehicle in or
