The ABS telltale light monitors the Anti-Lock
Brake System . The light will come on when the
ignition switch is turned to the ON position
and may stay on for as long as four second s.
When the vehicle is driven over 7 mph (11 km/ h), you
may also hear a slight clicking sou nd as well as som e
related motor noises. These noises are the system per-
form ing its self check cycle to ensu re that the ABS system
is working prop erly. This self-check occurs each time the
vehicle is started and accelerated past 7 mph (11 km/ h).
If the ABS light rem ains on or comes on while driving, it
ind icates that the Anti-Lock portion of the brake system
is not functioning and that service is requ ired . However,
the conventional brake system will continu e to operate
norm ally if the BRAKE warning light is not on.
ABS is activated during braking und er certain road or
stop ping cond itions. ABS-inducing cond itions can in-
clude ice, snow, gravel, bumps, railroad tracks, loose 5
debris, or panic stop s.
If the ABS light is on, the brake system shou ld be serviced
as soon as possible to restore the benefits of Anti-Lock
brakes. If the ABS light does not come on when the
Ignition switch is turned to the ON position, have the
bulb rep aired as soon as possible.
