FUEL REQUIREMENTS — GASOLINE ENGINES
AND 2.4L STANDARD TURBO ENGINES
stand ard engines are designed to meet
all emission regu lations and provid e excel-
lent fuel econom y and perform ance when
using high quality unlead ed “regu lar”
gasolines having an octane rating of 87.
The use of prem ium gasoline is not recom -
mend ed. Und er norm al cond itions, the use of prem ium
gasoline will not provid e a benefit over high quality
unlead ed “regu lar” gasolines, and in som e circumstances
may resu lt in poorer perform ance.
The manu factu rer supports the use of reform ulated gaso-
lines. Prop erly blend ed reform ulated gasolines will pro-
vid e excellent perform ance and durability of engine and
fuel system components.

GASOLINE/OXYGENATE BLENDS
Some fuel suppliers blend unlead ed gasoline with oxy-
genates such as 10% ethanol, MTBE, and ETBE. Oxygen-
ates are requ ired in som e areas of the country during the
winter months to red uce carbon monoxid e emissions. 5
Fuels blend ed with these oxygenates may be used in
you r vehicle.
CAUTIO N!
REFORMULATED GASOLINE
Many areas of the country requ ire the use of cleaner
burning gasoline referred to as “Reform ulated Gasoline”.
DO NOT use gasolin e contain ing Meth anol or E85
Ethanol. Use of these blen ds may resu lt in startin g
and driveab ility prob lem s and may damage critical
fuel system components.
Reform ulated gasolines contain oxygenates, and are spe-
cifically blend ed to red uce vehicle emissions and im-
prove air quality.
