MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE
Your vehicle has a simple ignition key-actu ated test,
which you can use prior to going to the test station. To
check if you r vehicle’s OBD II system is read y, you must
do the follow ing:
the ignition key or start the engine. This means that
you r vehicle’s OBD II system is not read y and you
shou ld not proceed to the I/ M station.
b. The MIL will not flash at all and will rem ain fully
illuminated until you turn OFF the ignition key or start
the engine. This means that you r vehicle’s OBD II
system is read y , and you can proceed to the I/ M
station.

Insert you r ignition key into the ignition switch.
Turn the ignition to the ON position, but do not crank
or start the engine.
If you crank or start the engine, you will have to start
this test over.
As soon as you turn you r key to the ON position, you

If you r OBD II system is not read y, you shou ld see you r
authorized dealer or rep air facility. If you r vehicle was
recently serviced or had a battery failu re or rep lacem ent,
you may need to do nothing more than drive you r
vehicle as you norm ally would in ord er for you r OBD II
system to update. A recheck with the above test rou tine
may then ind icate that the system is now read y.
