Autom atic Com pass Calib ration
Manual Com pass Calib ration
The compass on you r vehicle is self-calibrating, eliminat-
ing the need to manu ally calibrate the compass. When
the vehicle is new, the compass may appear erratic and
the CAL ind icator message will flash in the EVIC until
the calibration is complete.
If the compass appears to be inaccu rate, you may wish to
manu ally calibrate the compass. Prior to calibrating the
compass, make sure the prop er compass variance valu e
(zone) is selected (refer to the above “Com pass Variance”
for additional inform ation. Then continu e to calibrate the
compass as follow s:
A good calibration requ ires a level surface and an envi-
ronm ent free from large metallic objects such as build-
ings, brid ges, und ergrou nd cables, railroad tracks, etc.
1. Start the engine, and leave the transm ission in the
PARK position.
Calibrate the compass by driving slow ly, und er 5 mph (8
km/ h) in one or more complete circles in a area free from
large metallic objects, until the CAL ind icator in the EVIC
turns off. The compass will now function norm ally.
2. Press and hold (approxim ately 10 second s) the
Com pass/ Temperatu re reset button until the current
variance zone nu mber is displayed .

Release the reset button, then press and hold again
NOTE: Keep all magnetic objects, such as laptop com-
puters, cell phones and PDAs (anything with a battery)
away from the compass sensor which is located in the top
of the instru ment panel. These devices can interfere with
compass accuracy and perform ance.

played with the “CAL” ind icator on continu ously in the
display.
