STARTING AND OPERATING
NOTE:
next  time  the   vehicle  is  started .  This  might  ind icate  a
damaged   cap.  If the problem   is detected   twice  in a  row,
the  system  will  turn  on the  Malfu nction  Ind icator  Light
(MIL).  Resolving   the  problem   will  turn   the  MIL  light
off.Refer  to  “Onboard   Diagnostic   System  — OBDII”  in
Section  7 of this  manu al for  more  inform ation.

Tighten  the gas  cap until  you  hear a  “clicking”  sou nd .
This  is  an  ind ication   that  the   gas  cap  is  tightened
prop erly.  The Malfu nction   Ind icator  Light  in  the  in-
stru ment  cluster   may  turn   on  if  the  gas  cap  is  not
secured  prop erly.  Make sure  that  the  gas  cap is  tight-
ened  each  time the  vehicle  is refu eled .
VEHICLE LOADING

When  the  fuel   nozzle  “clicks”  or  shu ts  off,  the  fuel
tank  is full.

If the  vehicle  diagnostic  system  determ  ines that  the  fuel
filler  cap  is loose,   improp erly  installed ,  or  damaged ,  a
“gASCAP”  message  will  be displayed   in the  Odometer/
Trip Odometer   in the instru ment  cluster.  Refer to “Instru -
ment  Cluster   Descrip tion”  in  Section  4 of  this  manu al.
Tighten   the   fuel   filler   cap   prop erly    and   press   the
odometer/   trip odometer   reset button  to turn  the message
off. If the problem  continu es,  the message  will appear   the
