transaxle and the fluid.

Remove the dipstick and determ ine if the fluid is hot
or cold. Hot fluid is approxim ately 180° F (82° C), which
is the norm al operating tem peratu re after the vehicle is
driven at least 15 miles (24 km). Hot fluid cannot be held
comfortably betw een the fingertip s. Cold fluid is at a
tem peratu re below 80°F (27°C).
FLUID LEVEL CHECK — FOUR-CYLIN DER
ENGINES
Use the follow ing proced ure to check the autom atic
transaxle fluid level prop erly:

Wipe the dipstick clean and reinsert until seated . Then,

Park the vehicle on level grou nd .
rem ove dipstick and note the read ing.

Run the engine at curb idle speed for a minim um of 60
a. If the fluid is hot, the read ing shou ld be in the
crosshatched area marked “HOT” (betw een the upper
two holes in the dipstick).

Apply the parking brake fully.
b. If the fluid is cold, the fluid level shou ld be betw een
the lower two holes in the area marked “COLD.”
