TorqueLock
Ifyouareparkingonahillandyoudonotshiftthe
transmission intoP(Park)properly,theweightofthe
vehiclecanputtoomuchforceontheparkingpawl
inthetransmission. Itmightbedifficult topullthe
shiftleveroutofP(Park).Thisiscalledtorquelock.
Topreventtorquelock,settheparkingbrakeandthen
shiftintoP(Park)properly beforeyouleavethedriver
seat.Tofindouthow,seeShifting IntoPark on
page 3‑41.
{WARNING:
Itcanbedangerous toleavethevehiclewiththe
enginerunning. Thevehiclecouldmovesuddenly
iftheshiftleverisnotfullyinP(Park)withthe
parkingbrakefirmlyset.And,ifyouleavethe
vehiclewiththeenginerunning, itcouldoverheat
andevencatchfire.Youorotherscouldbe
injured. Donotleavethevehiclewiththeengine
running.
Whenyouarereadytodrive,movetheshiftleveroutof
P(Park)beforereleasing theparkingbrake.
Iftorquelockdoesoccur,youmightneedtohave
anothervehiclepushyoursalittleuphilltotakesomeof
thepressurefromtheparkingpawlinthetransmission.
Thenyoushouldbeabletopulltheshiftleveroutof
P(Park).
Ifyouhavetoleavethevehiclewiththeenginerunning,
besurethevehicleisinP(Park)andtheparkingbrake
isfirmlyset.AftertheshiftleverismovedintoP(Park),
holdtheregularbrakepedaldown.Then,seeifyoucan
movetheshiftleverawayfromP(Park)withoutfirst
pullingittowardyou.Ifyoucan,itmeansthattheshift
leverwasnotfullylockedintoP(Park).
