PleasenotethattheTPMSisnotasubstitute forproper
tiremaintenance, anditisthedriver's responsibility to
maintaincorrect tirepressure, evenifunder‐inflation
hasnotreachedtheleveltotriggerillumination ofthe
TPMSlowtirepressuretelltale.
TheTirePressureMonitorSystem(TPMS)usesradio
andsensortechnology tochecktirepressure levels.
TheTPMSsensorsmonitortheairpressure inyour
vehicle's tiresandtransmit tirepressurereadings toa
receiver locatedinthevehicle.
Yourvehiclehasalsobeenequipped withaTPMS
malfunction indicator toindicate whenthesystemisnot
operating properly.TheTPMSmalfunction indicator is
combinedwiththelowtirepressure telltale. Whenthe
systemdetectsamalfunction, thetelltale willflashfor
approximately oneminuteandthenremaincontinuously
illuminated. Thissequence willcontinue upon
subsequent vehiclestart‐upsaslongasthemalfunction
exists.
Eachtire,including thespare(ifprovided), shouldbe
checkedmonthlywhencoldandinflated totheinflation
pressure recommended bythevehiclemanufacturer
onthevehicleplacardortireinflation pressurelabel.
(Ifyourvehiclehastiresofadifferent sizethanthesize
indicated onthevehicleplacardortireinflation pressure
label,youshoulddetermine thepropertireinflation
pressure forthosetires.)
Whenthemalfunction indicator isilluminated, the
systemmaynotbeabletodetectorsignallowtire
pressure asintended. TPMSmalfunctions mayoccur
foravarietyofreasons, including theinstallation of
replacement oralternate tiresorwheelsonthevehicle
thatpreventtheTPMSfromfunctioning properly.
AlwayschecktheTPMSmalfunction telltale after
replacing oneormoretiresorwheelsonyourvehicleto
ensurethatthereplacement oralternate tiresand
wheelsallowtheTPMStocontinue tofunction properly.
Asanaddedsafetyfeature, yourvehiclehasbeen
equipped withatirepressuremonitoring system
(TPMS)thatilluminates alowtirepressuretelltale when
oneormoreofyourtiresissignificantly under‐inflated.
Accordingly,whenthelowtirepressuretelltale
illuminates, youshouldstopandcheckyourtiresas
soonaspossible, andinflatethemtotheproper
pressure. Drivingonasignificantly under‐inflated tire
causesthetiretooverheatandcanleadtotirefailure.
Under‐inflation alsoreducesfuelefficiency andtire
treadlife,andmayaffectthevehicle's handling and
stopping ability.
