Whenitbeginstogetdark,theautomatic headlamp
systemswitches fromDRLtotheheadlamps.
Thevehiclehasalightsensorlocatedonthetopof
theinstrument panel.Donotcoverthissensororthe
systemwillcomeonwhenever theignition ison.
ToturnofftheDRLlamps,turntheexterior lamps
controltotheOFFposition andthenrelease. For
vehicles firstsoldinCanada,thetransmission mustbe
intheP(Park)position, beforetheDRLlampscanbe
turnedoff.
Thesystemmayalsoturnontheheadlamps when
drivingthroughaparkinggarage,atunnel,orwhile
drivinginheavyovercast weather.Thisisnormal.
Thereisadelayinthetransition betweenthedaytime
andnighttime operation oftheDaytimeRunningLamps
(DRL)andtheautomatic headlamp systemssothat
drivingunderbridgesorbrightoverhead streetlights
doesnotaffectthesystem.TheDRLandautomatic
headlamp systemisonlyaffectedwhenthelightsensor
seesachangeinlighting lastinglongerthanthedelay.
AutomaticHeadlampSystem
Whenitisdarkenoughoutsideandtheheadlamp
switchisinAUTO,theautomatic headlamp system
turnsontheheadlamps alongwithotherlampssuchas
thetaillamps, sidemarker,parkinglamps,roofmarker
lamps,andtheinstrument panellights.Theradiolights
willalsobedim.
Ifthevehicleisstartedinadarkgarage,theautomatic
headlamp systemcomesonimmediately.Oncethe
vehicleleavesthegarage,ittakesapproximately
oneminutefortheautomatic headlampsystemto
changetoDRLifitislightoutside. Duringthatdelay,
theinstrument panelclustermaynotbeasbrightas
usual.Makesuretheinstrument panelbrightness
controlisinthefullbrightposition. SeeInstrument
PanelBrightness onpage4‑16.
Toturnofftheautomatic headlampsystem,turnthe
exterior lampsswitchtotheoffposition andthen
release. Forvehicles firstsoldinCanada,the
transmission mustbeintheP(Park)position, before
theautomatic headlamp systemcanbeturnedoff.
