experience. Thecombination youaredrivingislonger
andnotasresponsive asthevehicleitself.Get
acquainted withthehandling andbrakingoftherig
beforesettingoutfortheopenroad.

Beforestarting, checkalltrailerhitchpartsand
attachments, safetychains,electrical connectors,
lamps,tiresandmirrors. Ifthetrailer haselectric
brakes,startthecombination movingandthenapply
thetrailerbrakecontroller byhandtobesurethe
brakeswork.
Whentowingatrailer,exhaustgasesmaycollect
attherearofthevehicleandenteriftheliftgate,
trunk/hatch, orrear-most windowisopen.
Engineexhaustcontains carbonmonoxide (CO)
whichcannotbeseenorsmelled. Itcancause
unconsciousness andevendeath.
Duringthetrip,checkoccasionally tobesurethatthe
loadissecureandthelampsandanytrailerbrakes
stillwork.
Tomaximizesafetywhentowingatrailer:

Havetheexhaustsysteminspected forleaks
andmakenecessary repairs beforestarting
atrip.
FollowingDistance
Stayatleasttwiceasfarbehindthevehicleaheadas
youwouldwhendrivingthevehiclewithoutatrailer.
Thiscanhelptoavoidheavybrakingandsuddenturns.

passedvehiclebeforereturning tothelane.
AdjusttheClimateControlsystemtoasetting
thatbringsinonlyoutsideairandsetthefan
