surenottoexceedtheRGAWRbeforeapplying the
weightdistribution springbars.
Thecorrect hitchequipment helpsmaintaincombination
control. Mostsmall-to-medium trailers canbetowed
withaweightcarrying hitchwhichsimplyfeatures a
couplerlatchedtothehitchball.Largertrailersmay
requireaweightdistributing hitchthatusesspringbars
todistribute thetrailertongueweightamongthetwo
vehicleandtraileraxles.See“WeightoftheTrailer

varioushitchtypes.
WeightoftheTraileringCombination
Ifastep-bumper hitchwillbeused,thebumpercould
bedamagedinsharpturns.Makesurethereisample
roomwhenturningtoavoidcontactbetweenthetrailer
andthebumper.
Itisimportant thatthecombination ofthetow
vehicleandtrailerdoesnotexceedanyofitsweight
ratings—GCWR,GVWR,RGAWR,TrailerWeight
RatingorTongueWeight.Theonlywaytobesureitis
notexceeding anyoftheseratingsistoweighthetow
vehicleandtrailercombination, fullyloadedforthetrip,
gettingindividual weightsforeachoftheseitems.
