theleft.Tomovethetrailer totheright,moveyourhand
totheright.Alwaysbackupslowlyand,ifpossible,
havesomeoneguideyou.
Reducespeedandshifttoalowergearbeforestarting
downalongorsteepdowngrade. Ifthetransmission is
notshifteddown,thebrakesmightgethotandno
longerworkwell.
VehiclescantowinD(Drive). Shiftthetransmission to
alowergearifthetransmission shiftstoooftenunder
heavyloadsand/orhillyconditions.
MakingTurns
Notice: Makingverysharpturnswhiletrailering
couldcausethetrailertocomeincontactwith
thevehicle. Thevehiclecouldbedamaged.
Avoidmakingverysharpturnswhiletrailering.
Thetow/haul modemaybeusedifthetransmission
shiftstoooften.SeeTow/HaulModeonpage3‑39.
Whentowingathighaltitude onsteepuphillgrades,
consider thefollowing: Enginecoolantwillboilata
lowertemperature thanatnormalaltitudes. Iftheengine
isturnedoffimmediately aftertowingathighaltitude on
steepuphillgrades,thevehiclemayshowsignssimilar
toengineoverheating. Toavoidthis,lettheenginerun
whileparked,preferably onlevelground,withthe
automatic transmission inP(Park)forafewminutes
beforeturningtheengineoff.Iftheoverheatwarning
comeson,seeEngineOverheating onpage7‑33.
Whenturningwithatrailer,makewiderturnsthan
normal.Dothissothetrailerwillnotstrikesoft
shoulders, curbs,roadsigns,treesorotherobjects.
Avoidjerkyorsuddenmaneuvers. Signalwell
inadvance.
Ifthetrailerturnsignalbulbsburnout,thearrowson
theinstrument panelwillstillflashforturns.Itis
important tocheckoccasionally tobesurethetrailer
bulbsarestillworking.
