Somegasolines thatarenotreformulated forlow
emissions cancontainanoctane-enhancing additive
calledmethylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl
(MMT);asktheattendant whereyoubuygasoline
whetherthefuelcontainsMMT.Werecommend against
theuseofsuchgasolines. Fuelscontaining MMTcan
reducethelifeofsparkplugsandtheperformance of
theemissioncontrolsystemcouldbeaffected. The
malfunction indicator lampmightturnon.Ifthisoccurs,
returntoyourdealer/retailer forservice.
Forcustomers whodonotuseTOPTIERDetergent
Gasolineregularly,onebottleofGMFuelSystem
TreatmentPLUS,addedtothefueltankateveryengine
oilchange,canhelpcleandepositsfromfuelinjectors
andintakevalves.GMFuelSystemTreatmentPLUSis
theonlygasolineadditive recommended byGeneral
Motors.
Also,yourdealer/retailer hasadditives thatwillhelp
correctandpreventmostdeposit‐relatedproblems.
FuelE85(85%Ethanol)
Thisvehiclecanuseeitherunleaded gasoline or
Gasolines containing oxygenates, suchasethersand
ethanol, andreformulated gasolines mightbeavailable
inyourarea.Werecommend thatyouusethese
gasolines, iftheycomplywiththespecifications
described earlier.However,E85(85%ethanol) and
otherfuelscontaining morethan10%ethanolmustnot
beusedinvehicles thatwerenotdesigned forthose
fuels.

E85invehicles thataredesignedtouseit.Theethanol
inE85isa“renewable”fuel,meaningitismadefrom
renewable sourcessuchascornandothercrops.
Manyservicestations willnothavean85%ethanol
fuel(E85)pumpavailable. TheU.S.Department
ofEnergyhasanalternative fuelswebsite
(www.eere.energy.gov/afdc/infrastructure/locator.html)
thatcanhelpyoufindE85fuel.Thosestations thatdo
haveE85shouldhavealabelindicating ethanol
content. Donotusethefueliftheethanolcontentis
greaterthan85%.

methanol. Itcancorrodemetalpartsinthefuel
systemandalsodamageplasticandrubberparts.
