containtheheadandchestofoccupants inthe
outboard seatingpositions inthefirst,second,andthird
rows,ifequipped withathirdrowseat.Therollover
capableroof-rail airbagsaredesignedtohelpreduce
theriskoffullorpartialejection inrollover events,
although nosystemcanpreventallsuchejections.
Thepartsoftheairbagthatcomeintocontactwithyou
maybewarm,butnottoohottotouch.Theremaybe
somesmokeanddustcomingfromtheventsinthe
deflated airbags. Airbaginflation doesnotpreventthe
driverfromseeingoutofthewindshield orbeingableto
steerthevehicle, nordoesitpreventpeoplefrom
leavingthevehicle.
Butairbagswouldnothelpinmanytypesofcollisions,
primarily becausetheoccupant's motionisnottoward

Whenanairbaginflates, theremaybedustinthe
air.Thisdustcouldcausebreathing problems for
peoplewithahistoryofasthmaorotherbreathing
trouble. Toavoidthis,everyone inthevehicle
shouldgetoutassoonasitissafetodoso.
Ifyouhavebreathing problems butcannotgetout
ofthevehicleafteranairbaginflates, thenget
freshairbyopeningawindoworadoor.Ifyou
experience breathing problems following anairbag
deployment, youshouldseekmedicalattention.
Airbagsshouldneverberegarded asanything more
thanasupplement tosafetybelts.
WhatWillYouSeeAfteranAirbag
Inflates?
Afterthefrontalairbagsandseat-mounted sideimpact
airbagsinflate, theyquicklydeflate, soquicklythat
somepeoplemaynotevenrealizeanairbaginflated.
Roof-rail airbagsmaystillbeatleastpartially inflated for
sometimeaftertheydeploy.Somecomponents ofthe
airbagmodulemaybehotforseveralminutes.For

Thevehiclehasafeaturethatmayautomatically unlock
thedoors,turnontheinterior lampsandhazardwarning
flashers, andshutoffthefuelsystemaftertheairbags
inflate. Youcanlockthedoors,turnofftheinterior
lampsandhazardwarningflashers byusingthe
controls forthosefeatures.
