ThevehiclehasaComputer-Controlled Cranking
System.Thisfeatureassistsinstarting theengine
andprotects components. Iftheignition keyis
turnedtotheSTARTposition, andthenreleased
whentheenginebeginscranking, theenginewill
continue cranking forafewsecondsoruntilthe
vehiclestarts.Iftheenginedoesnotstartandthe
keyisheldinSTARTformanyseconds, cranking
willbestoppedafter15secondstoprevent
cranking motordamage.Topreventgeardamage,
thissystemalsoprevents cranking iftheengine
isalreadyrunning. Enginecranking canbe
stoppedbyturningtheignition switchtothe
ACC/ACCESSORYorLOCK/OFFposition.
IfthevehicleisaTwo-modeHybrid,seetheTwo-mode
Hybridmanualformoreinformation.
MovetheshiftlevertoP(Park)orN(Neutral). The
enginewillnotstartinanyotherposition. Torestartthe
enginewhenthevehicleisarealreadymoving,use
N(Neutral) only.
Notice: DonottrytoshifttoP(Park)ifthe
vehicleismoving.Ifyoudo,youcoulddamage
thetransmission. ShifttoP(Park)onlywhenthe
vehicleisstopped.
StartingProcedure
Notice: Cranking theengineforlongperiodsof
time,byreturning thekeytotheSTARTposition
immediately aftercrankinghasended,canoverheat
anddamagethecrankingmotor,anddrainthe
battery.Waitatleast15secondsbetweeneachtry,
toletthecrankingmotorcooldown.

Withyourfootofftheaccelerator pedal,turnthe
ignition keytoSTART.Whentheenginestarts,
letgoofthekey.Theidlespeedwillgodownas
theenginegetswarm.Donotracetheengine
immediately afterstarting it.Operatetheengine
andtransmission gentlytoallowtheoiltowarmup
andlubricate allmovingparts.
